Charles Sellers
Charles Sellers is the author of the folklore collection, Tales from the Land of Nuts and Grapes: Spanish and Portuguese Folklore. Upon its publication in 1888, Sellers was the first author put these classic folk tales on paper. The author thought that the poetry, songs, and stories of the Portuguese and Spanish people had been ignored for too long and sought to correct this literary oversight by publishing his folklore collection. Sellers said that in other parts of the world, such as England, tales are told and transcribed for generations, but even the elders of Spain and Portugal don’t have records to preserve the tales. He had spent his youth living between these two lands, born and bred North of Portugal, according to the book’s preface.Tales from the Land of Nuts and Grapes: Spanish and Portuguese Folklore is Sellers’ only book, but it’s a rich work of folklore.
