Jacob and Wilhelm Grimm, known worldwide as the Brothers Grimm, were German academics who collected and published folk tales in the 19th century. Their collection, Grimm's Fairy Tales (first published 1812), contains over 200 stories including Cinderella, Rapunzel, Snow White, Hansel and Gretel, and Rumpelstiltskin. Brothers Grimm fairy tales remain among the most widely translated stories in the world, forming the foundation of the Western fairy tale tradition.
